Meet Jess Belardino

The Whore of Scrabylon

Jess is single and in her early thirties. She owns a small business called Hollywood Dresses, which copies famous (and not so famous) dresses from film and television.

She lives and works in downtown Baltimore in the Canton area, though she grew up "out in the country" in Westminster, MD. She went to the school that offered the most financial aid, which turned out to be the University of KY.

Her father lives alone in the house Jess grew up in since her mother passed away when she was little, though her three older brothers and their kids keep him pretty busy, not to mention his new girlfriend who thinks Jess is the long-lost daughter she never had.

She has three best friends - Deb, Tammy and Tess - as well as a network of women business owners from the Canton shopping district dubbed, Fashion Row.  But the one person who knows her better than anyone is her sister-in-law Jo Jo, who encouraged her to start her business and has, even though she's just a few years older, acted as Jess's surrogate mother.

Though she's dated her fair share of men, and been in love more than once, at the beginning of the story she only has one FWB - Friend With Benefits - that she spends time with. Her business is starting to take off as more and more women from Baltimore and DC society choose to copy a classic dress from film, rather than buy "off the rack."

Jess delves into the world of online dating quite by accident. She logs into the website www.ScrabbleBabble.com and the fun begins! As she plays opponents from all over the world, she chats and flirts with them in their own private chat room.

She goes by the screen name JEZEBEL and is soon up to her eyeballs in suitors from all over the place...and having the time of her life!

Hollywood Dresses

The first floor is the showroom of Hollywood Dresses and second floor holds the sewing studio where the gowns are created. The third floor is Jess's small apartment.

The shop is open to the public and is fully staffed by Bogie & Bacall, Jess's two pure-bred Bouvier des Flanders dogs who stand about hip high and resemble Chewbacca on four legs.

On display is a copy of Lady Di's wedding dress, the red opera gown from Pretty Woman and the famous black sheath from Breakfast at Tiffany's. Lots of people stop in just to see the dresses up close.
